Investigators say a woman stole nearly $100,000 from Southwest Florida home and condominium associations while she was managing their accounts.Amy M. Copeland, 39, 860 Meadowland Drive, Unit F, North Naples, was arrested Wednesday on a warrant charging her with 21 counts of grand theft. She is also facing charges of aggravated white collar crime, offenses against computer users and petty theft.
Copeland stole $95,330.46 while she was employed as an account manager for Integrated Property Management, 3435 10th St. N., Suite 201, Naples, according to investigators with the Collier County Sheriff’s Office’s Economic Crimes Unit. IPM manages approximately 130 home and condo association accounts, investigators said.
The company discovered in December 2008 that Copeland was making fraudulent bank transfers from association accounts into her personal account, investigators said.
Further investigation by sheriff’s economic crimes investigators found that from Sept. 6, 2005, to Dec. 23, 2008, there had been 63 electronic transfers of funds debited from the operating accounts of 22 home and condo associations and credited to Copeland’s personal bank account.
Investigators say all of the transfers were conducted without the knowledge or authority of IPM officials or the association boards of directors.
