Deputies were investigating a suspicious incident Thursday night in which signs were posted in a North Naples residential community warning residents of an escaped python in the area.
Deputies said signs were posted in the Victoria Lakes condominium complex, located off Airport-Pulling Road North, warning of an escaped 8-9 foot python. The signs cautioned residents to watch for children and pets.
It was not known who posted the signs or if a snake had indeed escaped. Deputies contacted the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. FWC officials confirmed that a python could pose a danger to small children and pets and that it would become active in daylight hours.
Deputies urged residents in the area of Victoria Lakes and nearby Victoria Park to use caution.
If you see the animal, do not go near it and call 911.
An investigation continues.
