Not sure if
you’ve properly installed your child’s car seat? Have your car seat checked or
fitted for free by a Collier County Sheriff’s Office child passenger safety
technician Saturday, Dec. 13.
CCSO will
participate in a child car seat safety inspection event in cooperation with
Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida from 9 a.m. to noon at
Ecobaby & Home, 2355 Vanderbilt Beach Road, #150, North Naples.
A certified
CCSO car seat technician at the event will work with you to make sure your
child is in the right seat and fitted properly, and that the seat is correctly
installed in your vehicle.
Bilingual
fitting technicians will be available.
Florida law
requires parents to use a child restraint system. If children are not properly
restrained while traveling in a vehicle, they could easily be injured in a
collision or any other emergency situation.
Effective
Jan. 1, 2015, every operator of a motor vehicle, while transporting a child in
a motor vehicle operated on Florida roadways, streets, or highways shall, if
the child is 5 years of age or younger, provide for protection of the child by
properly using a crash-tested, federally approved child-restraint device.
Formerly
only children through age 3 had to be in child restraints. The statute does
provide exceptions.
