Sharhonda Darlene Simmons, 22, 546 14th St. N., Naples, was charged with child neglect, possession of marijuana and resisting arrest.
Reports say a deputy on patrol saw Simmons smoking a marijuana cigar as she sat in the passenger seat of a gray Nissan that was traveling south on Goodlette-Frank Road near Seventh Avenue North around 3:15 p.m.
Simmons, who was about 10 feet away from the deputy, held the marijuana in her left hand, placed it to her lips and inhaled, reports said. She looked directly at the deputy as she did this, reports said.
The deputy pulled over the Nissan, which was traveling faster than the posted 45 mph speed limit, reports said. He detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the car.
Two young children who were not in child safety restraints were in the back seat, reports said.
Several small pieces of marijuana were in plain view on the driver’s seat and throughout the floor of the car, reports said.
