Shopping Spree Ends In 2 Felony Arrests

A shopping spree ended in the arrests of two people Monday after deputies say they stole a shopping cart full of merchandise from a North Naples Bed, Bath & Beyond store and then fled in a waiting car.

Byron L. Reddick, 34, and Shanique Johnson, 29, both of Fort Myers were charged with grand theft.

Arrest reports say Reddick and Johnson entered the store at 5351 Airport-Pulling Road around 2 p.m. Reddick left the store with a shopping cart full of merchandise without paying for the items.
A store manager told deputies that he followed Reddick out into the parking lot, where Reddick ignored his calls to stop. Reddick jumped into the backseat of a red Chevrolet Impala and sped off, picking up Johnson at the end of the shopping plaza.

Seminole police officers stopped the Impala near the 50 mile marker of Interstate 75. Deputies responded to the traffic stop and found Reddick and Johnson inside the vehicle. They also found items from Bed, Bath and Beyond which the pair had no receipts for, reports said.

Further investigation by deputies revealed that Reddick and Johnson stole the items from the North Naples store.

Reddick and Johnson were additionally charged with obstruction and giving false information to law enforcement after they lied and gave deputies fake names at the time of their arrests. Their true identities were revealed after they were fingerprinted at the jail, reports said.

The deputies’ investigation also revealed that Johnson had outstanding warrants out of Collier and Manatee counties. Reddick also had an active warrant, out of Lee County, for violation of probation for grand theft of a motor vehicle.
