Deputies: Probation Check Turns Up Drugs

A man who was on probation for a drug conviction was arrested after deputies say they found drugs inside his Golden Gate apartment during a probation check.

Julio Avila, 2290 55th Terrace S.W., Apt. B, was arrested and charged with sale or possession of a counterfeit controlled substance, possession of marijuana and possession of narcotic equipment.

Reports say investigators with the sheriff’s vice and narcotics bureau, along with several state probation officers, conducted a probation check at Avila’s apartment around 10 p.m. on Jan. 24.

A search of the residence turned up a clear plastic bag containing white powder inside a DVD case inside a closet. The powder was determined to be a counterfeit form of cocaine.

Another DVD case containing counterfeit cocaine and another containing marijuana were also found inside Avila’s apartment, reports said.
