Bandit Sniffs Way To Arrest

An Interstate 75 traffic stop for illegal window tint Sunday led deputies to a drug arrest, thanks in part to a CCSO canine’s keen sense of smell.

Bandit, a narcotic-detecting dog, was working with deputies who were focusing on drug interdiction Sunday. Shortly after 3 p.m. deputies stopped a four-door Honda at Mile Marker 80 because its window tint appeared to be darker than the law allows. The driver, Kyle James March, seemed nervous. Deputies said his hands were shaking and at one point he kneeled on the ground and prayed.

March, 19, of 11010 N.W. 16th Court, Pembrooke Pines, was issued a warning for having window tint that was darker than the legal limit.

Deputies then escorted Bandit around the outside of the car and the dog alerted, indicating that there were drugs inside. Deputies searched the car and found 48.2 grams of marijuana hidden in the trunk under a spare tire. They also found $2,750 in cash wrapped in a sock in the glove box. March was then charged with possession of more than 20 grams of marijuana.
