Kmart Scuffle Ends In Teen Shoplifter's Arrest

A teenage shoplifter threatened a store employee with scissors during a struggle inside the Kmart store in East Naples on Monday, deputies said.

Wistania Vancol, 17, 5321 Trammel St., Naples Manor, was charged with aggravated assault, grand theft, battery, and resisting property recovery.

Reports say Donna Marie Cavaseno, 53, a manager at the Kmart at 12713 U.S. 41 E., told deputies that she saw Vancol go inside a dressing room with clothing around noon and emerge 45 minutes later with the items concealed under her clothing.

Cavaseno said she then went inside the dressing room, where she found two empty cell phone boxes.

She brought the empty phone boxes up to the front of the store, where the store’s loss prevention manager, Dimitrios Skevakis, 27, was speaking to Vancol.

Skevakis said Vancol became upset and started yelling obscenities at Cavaseno. Vancol reached into her pants and pulled out a pair of scissors, saying she was going to cut Cavaseno, reports said.

Cavaseno told deputies that Vancol kicked her in the stomach three times.

Skevakis tackled Vancol to the ground and knocked the scissors from her hand. Skevakis held her there until deputies arrived.

Skevakis told deputies that he saw Vancol walk into the electronics department and cut two cell phone packages from a wall display. He also saw her place several phone cards down her pants. He also saw her pick up a few random clothing items, which she used to conceal the phones, and then walk into one of the dressing rooms.
