Crime Addage Holds True

They say the criminal always returns to the scene of the crime.

Deputies say that’s what happened this week when an Immokalee store manager looked out in the parking lot behind the store and saw a man who stole beer and pulled a knife on him earlier this month.

That sighting led to the arrest of Moises Martinez, 30, 224 N. 8th Street, Immokalee, on aggravated assault and theft charges.

Reports say Martinez and another man entered New Market Service, Inc., 101 New Market Road East, on Feb. 11. One took a 12-pack of Bud Light and the other took two 16-ounce cans of Bud Light before both ran from the store without paying. Manager Lokman Gulunay ran after them. Gulunay told deputies one of the men pulled a knife on him and said, “Come on.” Gulunay then went back into the store and called deputies.

Deputies searched the area but did not find the men.

On Feb. 24, Gulunay looked out to the parking lot and saw the man who pulled the knife on him and obtained information that led to his identity.

Martinez was later arrested at his home.
